Legendary coach, Alabi Assien,
was one of the resource persons at the recently concluded two-day grassroots
coaching seminar organized by a leading NGO, Community Sport and Educational
Development (CSED), in Benin-City, Edo State.
The seminar, organized in
partnership with the Edo State Football Association and Edo State Ministry of
Education, was attended by games masters and mistresses, in primary schools, in
Edo State.
Former Nigerian
International and Tunisia ’94 Afcon winner, Edema Fuludu as well as former
national team coach, Dan Evumena, joined Assien to train the coaches.
The
theoretical and practical component of this course were delivered by Assien, Fuludu
and Evumena, at no cost to participants.
Former Bendel
Insurance forward, Mfom Bassey, who is a coach attached to the Edo State
Football Association, also attended the event.
As part of
their “Vision 2020” goal, CSED intends to train no fewer than 1000 (one
thousand) Game Masters and Mistresses before the end of 2020
CSED Project
Manager, Cornelius Ehimiaghe, revealed that the seminar is one of the series of
seminars to hold in the Niger-Delta area with a view to building the capacities
of Game Master and Mistresses.
“CSED intends
to maintain their ‘free of charge’ approach for all the attendees of their
future training courses”, he said to naijaleague.com.ng
When asked
about his goal for the next one year, the CSED Project Manager replied: “We
intend getting representatives of a leading European football club to come and
run a coaching course as part of CSED’s TeachDteachers programme.
Outside the
sport pitches, CSED would also be involved in advocacy work, distributing of
free books and jerseys to selected schools, training of students in graphic
arts/illustration as well as computer coding.
CSED, the NGO Partner of
the Nigeria Schools Sports Federation (NSSF), produced a comic to celebrate the
anniversary of Nigeria’s impressive participation at the Atlanta ’96 Olympics,
where Chioma Ajunwa and the Under-23 football team won Gold Medals.
