King of Hattricks... Tony Okpotu
Lobi Stars all-time scorer, Tony Okpotu, Sunday scored his
third hat-trick this term against El-Kanemi Warriors to earn a place in the history
books as the first player to score triple hat-tricks in a season, in Nigeria.
Amazingly, Okpotu fondly called ‘The Panther’ fired his
hat-trick in just 35 minutes.
The former junior international scored on 11th, 20th and
46th minutes respectively to raise the bar after equaling Emem Eduok’s double
hat-trick record set against Nembe City, in 2014.
“I feel very happy to be the first player in Nigeria to
score three hat-tricks in a season. With three matches to go, I’ll target
another hat-trick.
“Credit to my coaches, teammates and fans at Lobi Stars for
this record. We achieved it together,” he said to naijaleaguez.com.ng
Okpotu scored his first hat-trick against Sunshine Stars and
added another hat-trick against MFM before his feat on Sunday against El-Kanemi
Warriors.
Sunday’s hat-trick also took his season’s tally to 17, one
behind leading top scorer, Stephen Odey and his all-time tally in Lobi Stars’
colours to 68 goals.
